5 Simple Questions to help with physical wellbeing with answers from Experts, Thought Leaders, Campaigners & Advocates

Richard King

Richard is a mechanical engineer (PhD, Stanford University) with a lifelong interest in health and fitness. Born in 1953, he has had 2 hip replacements and major heart surgery despite which he keeps himself fit and active.

Richard’s website “BionicOldGuy” provides fitness and health related blog posts. As his tag line “Ageing gracefully by keeping moving” suggests he provides help and tips around how to age optimally.

Richard’s book “Old But Still Moving” describes how he stays fit and active despite the medical conditions he has suffered. It looks to inspire older people to keep moving if they already are or get moving if they are not. It contains both physical (including diet) as well as mental wellbeing tips.

The Physical Wellbeing 5 with Richard King

1. What is your favourite quote, anecdote, proverb or experience that helps with physical wellbeing?

Rich: “Age is just a number” – Dara Torres

2. What is your top piece of advice for physical wellbeing?

Rich: Try to find something fun to stay active, walking, running, biking, dancing, etc. It is a lot easier to stay active if you love it than if it is a chore.

3. What is the one change in the world that you would like to see? (in your area of wellbeing or in the world in general or both)

Rich: There are a lot of changes I’d like to see in the world in general, like more love and less hatred. In the area of physical wellbeing, I’d like to see more people eating healthier and being active. The individual suffering, and burden on health care systems, do to so many sedentary people with poor eating habits, is staggering.

4. Which resources (books / websites / videos etc) for physical wellbeing would you recommend?

Rich: I like Dr. Greger’s website nutritionfacts.org for science-based advice on diet. He has also written two excellent books, How Not To Die on nutrition for health, and How Not To Diet on nutrition for weight loss. I like Clarence Bass’s website for training inspiration and information (also evidence-based): www.cbass.com. He is 82 years old and in phenomenal health and condition, quite a role model.

I mention quite a few books I like on my website here:  www.bionicoldguy.home.blog/2019/02/22/suggested-reading-fitness/

5. What’s the one thing that always makes you smile?

Rich: Seeing people that are happy and care about each other. How could this not make you smile:
